In the Good Samaritan, Jesus presents the model for every disciple. No one is a stranger to the disciple. Everyone is part of the household. One must be ready to lose oneself to give life to others. Jesus said: “Go and do likewise.” (Lk. 10:3 7).
It is therefore a command. We must know that everyone is a brother or sister, more valuable than our time, our money, our convenience and ourselves. This is love. We at Faith Works planned out visits to charitable homes once a month as an outreach to these homes to bring smiles and joy to all those living there. Today we visited the Missionaries of Charity (Old Goa) founded by Mother Teresa. Mother Teresa was one of the great servants of humanity. Her selfless work among the poverty-stricken people of Kolkata (Calcutta) is an inspiration for people all over the world. Two months ago our Healing Touch bus was here for two days treating all their dental needs. This time we went there & sang songs praising God. Yvette spoke a few words on God’s love & then the Faith Works team along with children served the snacks & the soft drinks to all. Later they put bangles on their hands & earrings on their ears of all present. It was truly a joyous occasion.
Finally, some of the woman residing there, took over the microphone and began singing their favourite songs of yesteryear whilst Sancho accompanied them on the Keyboard. As we left, I heard one of our members saying “All that happened this evening was balm to my soul”. How true were those words. My friends, we need to check our attitude to possessions and to our needy brethren. James. 1:27 tells us “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.” Are you your brother's keeper?
